Why can’t I focus anymore, my mind feels hijacked, what\’s really happening?
The Problem
This issue is multi faceted, but we can zero in on a few key causes. Firstly, the amygdala (the tiny alert organ) of the brain has been hyper sensitized now for the past few decades. Almost all forms of media constantly light it on and off all day long. With every flash it releases cortisol. That hormonal stress loop consistently shunts less blood to the frontal cortex so thinking is impaired.
Next, we have to understand the limits of the human brain. It is designed to handle one open file at a time. The frontal cortex only processes about 40 bits of information per second with a file capacity of 7 open files. The more open files there are, the slower the processor of our frontal cortex. Today, at any given moment, almost everyone one you see has many open files, (issues, problems, tasks witihout closure) The variance of file content is huge and often highly emotional. One can scroll a horrific public execution, followed immediately by a celebrity wedding, flowing into obscene sexual content. Its all designed to shock us, lower thinking ability, and maintain stress, fear, and uncertainty.
The amygdala/cortisol complex is more addictive than cocaine, which gurantees that the people remain hooked into this self debilitating pattern. Meanwhile, life goes on, and everyone has to work and pay their bills. This ensures that people remain tired, busy, and unmotivated to change their lives.
Finally, human interaction and contact has been carefully replaced with virtual space via their phones. This depletes us all in myriad ways, because we are social biological beings, and cannot maintain health or balance living in virtual space.
Some Solutions
Firstly, one needs to sit down with a pen and paper and take the time to design a simplified daily plan.
Everyday, needs to begin with SILENCE, ritual alone time where you decide your intentions for that day, anchor your energy into your being, and clarify your thoughts. At least 30 minutes, but even 15 in superior to none at all.
Next, you need to decide exactly which material you will look at and listen to, and scratch the rest! Only you can decide this. To do it properly it is necessary for you to be aware of your personal values, and only select those sites, platforms, and activities that align.
By doing this you will greatly reduce the mental/emotional/intellectual load that is draining you now. That will free up energy and give you a sense of yourself again. Remember this well, when it comes to your brain, less is more, way more!
